We are excited to announce Jerry Yarov as our new Board President. Jerry has served as Moving Day® Columbus Chair since our first Moving Day in 2012, the same year he joined the board. He has served as President Elect and Chair of our sponsorship/fundraising committee. He is featured on page one as one of our Let’s Talk PD partners, so be sure to read more about his personal experience with Parkinson’s there. We look forward to his continued leadership as we serve the PD community.
If you are wondering why we haven’t announced a date for our Spring Symposium, it’s because we aren’t having one this year! We hope that you will be able to attend the OhioHealth Columbus Parkinson’s Boot Camp being held on May 6th, in consultation with University Hospitals Cleveland. The program has been very well received in Northeast Ohio, and we are excited to part a part of the event here and we will present on the life-saving Aware in Care Kits and distribute our free resources. We also hope to see you for at least one of the Spring Lunch and Learn events we are hosting throughout the state. Details for both can be found throughout this issue and on our website: www.parkinsonohio.org.
We also hope that you have put Moving Day® Cleveland on your calendar- we look forward to seeing you on June 17th at Wade Oval in downtown Cleveland’s University Circle. Last year, more than 750 PD patients, caregivers, medical staffs, family members and friends came out for the first ever Cleveland Moving Day® walk. What an opportunity to bring the Northeast Ohio PD community together. A good portion of the monies raised from the event went back into the PD community through grants to programs affecting Ohio PD patients. In this second walk year, a dynamic committee is planning an even better event and they want everyone involved! It’s time to get excited to participate. Go to www.movingdaycleveland.org to register your team today. Questions? Email Cleveland’s Moving Day coordinator, Laura Gasbarro at email@example.com. Moving Day® Columbus will be on September 24th, and the website to register is www.movingdaycolumbus.org. For questions about the Columbus event, and to volunteer to help plan the event, contact Jennifer Mathews at firstname.lastname@example.org. There is also still time to get your foursome signed up for our Strike Out Parkinson’s Bowling Event on March 11th. Addition information is in this newsletter, and on our website.
All of our programs and events are possible from the strong support of a great group of volunteers. We have an ongoing need for volunteers in a variety of opportunities. For more information, contact Jennifer at email@example.com.
Finally, you may begin to hear “The Parkinson’s Foundation” instead of “National Parkinson Foundation” out in the community, on our website and Facebook pages, and throughout the newsletter. The Parkinson’s Foundation emerged in August of last year when the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) merged. Know that whether you see “National Parkinson Foundation Ohio” or “Parkinson’s Foundation Ohio,” it’s still us, and we are still here to serve the Parkinson’s community throughout Ohio!
